A Frequently Asked Question

Question:

How can I count the words in my paper?

Answer:

To get an accurate word count, select (with your mouse) the portion of the paper that you want to count the words. This will generally exclude the title and reference pages.

Click on the Tools menu in Word versions previous to 2007, and click on Word Count. It will count only the words that have been selected.

Word 2007: On the Review tab, in the Proofing group, click Word Count.
