First impressions matter, and when it comes to your APA 7 student research paper, ensuring your title page is in order is the equivalent of introducing yourself with a firm handshake and a friendly smile.
For APA 7 student research papers (which have different requirements than professional research papers), the title page organizes key details about the student and class in a simple layout so instructors can see the basic information at a glance. The steps below show what to include and how to format each part.
The following is a checklist of what to include and how to format each part of your APA 7 title page, but don’t forget, your instructor’s requirements always come first.
Formatting requirements
These elements are placed in the top half of the title page (usually starting on the 3rd or 4th double-spaced line) and center aligned. Only place one item on each line.
- Paper title
Your paper’s title should be in bold and title case (capitalize all major words and the first word of the title and subtitle; keep your title concise and clear). - Empty Line
Don't forget the empty double-spaced line between the title and the other elements on the page. - Author name
First name, middle initial, last name. Omit degrees and titles. Include suffixes (e.g., Jr., III) if used. - School or institution
Provide the full name of your institution (or whatever your professor requests). - Course
Prefix and course title (e.g., PSY 101: Introduction to Psychology). - Instructor name
Written as the instructor requests (e.g., Dr., Professor). - Due date
Month Day, Year (e.g., April 30, 2026).
Remember, you’ll also want to be sure to include the page number on your title page, in the header, top-right. APA 7th Edition does not require a running head for student research papers.
