Do I need to install anything to use PERRLA?

Depends where you write. If you use Microsoft Word (desktop or Word for Web), you'll add PERRLA as a Word Add-in – it lives as a tab in your ribbon. If you'd rather write in your browser, PERRLA Online needs nothing installed at all. You can also use PERRLA with Google Docs when you install the PERRLA Google Docs extension. There's also a Chrome extension for grabbing references while you research. For setup help, installation walkthroughs, and platform guides, visit the PERRLA Help Center.

Does PERRLA write any of my paper for me?

No. PERRLA handles the formatting – your paper setup, your references, your citations, & your reference list. The actual ideas and sentences are 100% yours. That's intentional: it's your work, not a tool's, and AI detectors will see it that way too.

How quickly can I learn to use PERRLA?

Most students are up and running within their first paper. PERRLA's interface is built to be discoverable – you'll see clearly labeled buttons for the things you need to do (create a paper, add a reference, insert a citation), and the order they appear in mirrors the actual writing process. Do I still need to know APA or MLA rules if I use PERRLA?

You'll pick a lot up just by using it – PERRLA includes built-in guidance and tips that explain why a rule exists while you're writing. So you'll learn the rules in context instead of memorizing them up front. (Helpful if your program tests on APA knowledge, not just paper output.)

Can I re-use my references across different papers and different styles?
