A Note About Our Updated Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions

We’ve updated our Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions, effective September 21, 2026. We sent an email about this earlier today, and we wanted to share the same information here for anyone who prefers to review it on the blog.

The short version: Your work is still yours; we still don’t sell your data; and we never have. The updates are about being clearer and more complete about how PERRLA works – not about changing what we do with your information.

What PERRLA doesn’t do – and never has

A few things should be stated plainly:

  • We don’t sell your personal information. Zero. Never has happened, never will.
  • We don’t use your papers, references, notes, or files for advertising. Not to build a profile, not to target ads, not for anything like that.
  • We don’t use your content to train AI. When a file is sent to an outside AI service – only to pull bibliographic details from it – it’s under terms that specifically forbid training on it and limit how long it’s kept.
  • Your papers, references, and files are yours. PERRLA claims no ownership of anything you create or upload.

Advertising and analytics tools do run on perrla.com (our public facing website) and in our checkout – companies like Meta and Google can see that you visited and that you purchased, and may use that for their own advertising. But those tools don’t run inside PERRLA itself – not in PERRLA Online, the Word Add-In, Google Docs, or the Chrome Extension – and they never receive your PERRLA activity, your papers, your reference library, or your files.

A few things worth knowing from the Terms & Conditions

  • 30-day refund, no reason required. A full refund on your most recent purchase or renewal. We’ve always had this and it’s not changing.
  • Price increases come with 30 days’ notice by email. You can cancel before the new price takes effect. We’ve never raised prices on existing users but if we ever had to, you’ll receive plenty of notice.
  • Cancel anytime. In SettingsSubscription & Billing, or by emailing support. Cancelling stops future charges, and you keep access through the term you already paid for.
  • One subscription, one person. Your subscription covers you on the devices you personally use – PERRLA Online, the Word Add-In, Google Docs, and the Chrome Extension are all included.

Your choices

You can see and change your account information any time in your settings. You can download your papers and your entire reference library whenever you want. And if you’d like your account deleted, email support@perrla.com – your account is scrambled right away so it no longer identifies you, then permanently deleted within 30 days.

We put together a plain-English summary of both documents. The short version covers the key points without the legal language. The PDF summary is available for viewing here.
