Feature Spotlight: Your Research Files, With Room to Grow

One of the most useful things PERRLA does is keep your source PDFs attached to their references, so everything for a paper – the citation, the file, your notes and highlights – lives in one place. The more research you do, the more files that adds up to.

PERRLA now offers three storage plans, so your library has room to grow with you whether you’re writing a single-semester research paper or a multi-year dissertation.

The three plans

PERRLA – 2 GB of file storage, files up to 10 MB each. Enough room for a few hundred article PDFs.

PERRLA Pro – 10 GB of file storage, files up to 50 MB each, plus Priority Support. Built for students with larger research libraries – thesis work, lit reviews, and multi-course research collections.

PERRLA Unlimited – Unlimited file storage, files up to 100 MB each, plus Priority Support. No limits, no math, no worrying about space.

Priority Support means shorter wait times, faster replies, and access to weekly Friday Office Hours for live Q&A with the PERRLA Support Team.

For current pricing on each plan, visit the PERRLA pricing page.

For full details on plans and storage, see the PERRLA Plans and Storage article in our Help Center.

What counts toward storage (and what doesn’t)

File storage covers the PDFs and other files you attach to references, and files you upload to Collections.

Your papers, references, and research notes never count toward storage. Write as many as you need – only attached files take up space.

How to check your usage and upgrade

  1. Log in to your account at perrla.com, and go to Settings → Library & data → File storage to see how much storage you’ve used. Click Manage files to see every file in your library, with the option to delete anything you no longer need.
  2. To upgrade, go to Settings → Subscription & billing and choose Upgrade to PERRLA Pro or Upgrade to PERRLA Unlimited. You’ll pay the prorated difference for the rest of your current billing term, and your renewal date stays the same.

New subscribers choose a plan at checkout, available on monthly, 1-year, and 2-year terms.

If you’re running low on room

PERRLA keeps you informed as you approach your storage limit. You’ll get a notification at 80% and again at 95%.

If your storage is full, new file uploads will pause. Everything already in your library stays put and keeps working – nothing is removed. To make room, delete files you no longer need in Manage files, or upgrade your plan.

If an individual file is larger than your plan’s per-file limit, PERRLA won’t save it and will tell you why. You can try a compressed copy of the PDF – most PDF tools can reduce file size without hurting readability – or upgrade to a plan that allows larger files.

A few more things worth noting

  • Free trials include 2GB of storage. When you subscribe, you choose your plan.
  • PERRLA Pro and Unlimited aren’t available on 6-month subscriptions, which are no longer offered. To add Pro or Unlimited, choose a monthly, 1-year, or 2-year subscription when you renew.
  • Lifetime PERRLA accounts include 2GB of storage. Upgrading to PERRLA Pro or Unlimited moves a lifetime account to a subscription and ends lifetime access – PERRLA will ask you to confirm before you continue. See our Help Center for full details.

Tips for managing your storage

  • Starting a thesis, dissertation, or extended literature review? PERRLA Pro and Unlimited are built for exactly this – hundreds of source PDFs across a long project benefit from the extra room and larger file size limit.
  • Check your usage before a big import. If you’re bringing over a large Zotero library with PDFs attached, make sure you have room first.
  • Clean house in Manage files. Duplicate or outdated PDFs are the only thing taking up space. A quick review can free up more room than you’d expect.
